UP govt plans to establish sports stadium at every nyay panchayat

Lucknow, Jul 17 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh has planned to construct stadiums at every Nyay Panchayat in the state.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the Sports Minister, has planned to introduce a sports policy to pave way for construction of stadiums at every Nyay Panchayat.
The sports policy, draft of which is ready, will soon get cabinet approval, official sources here today said.
A Nyay Panchayat is one of the lowest units in Revenue Department and includes about 4-5 villages, which are treated as one unit for development.
The new sports policy plans to set up stadiums at every Nyay Panchayat. This will help in promoting talents in rural sports. ''When you have infrastructure, people will come out and play. It will help in honing their skills and also provide an opportunity to talented players,'' officials said.
As per the new policy, the government will provide Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh each to sportspersons from UP for participation in Olympics and Commonwealth/ Asian games. The gold, silver and bronze medal winners in Olympics will get Rs 6 crore, Rs 4 crore and Rs 2 crore, respectively. For Commonwealth/Asian games, winners will get Rs 50 lakh, Rs 30 lakh and Rs 15 lakh for gold, silver and bronze, respectively.
The officials said the nyay panchayat stadium will have basic facilities for most of the rural sports such as wrestling, kho-kho, kabaddi and athletics.
Facilities for indoor games will also be made available at these stadiums.
The sports kits and other facilities will be provided by the department.
The rural stadiums may not possess international-level infrastructure but will offer a playground, facilities for indoor and outdoor games, viewer’s arena and some halls.
Sports department also has proposed to include local village pradhans for organising sports events. Some financial assistance may also be provided to pradhans. The local competition will be organised at these stadiums where the winners will be selected for district level competition. The Department of Youth Welfare, too, will be roped in for assistance in organising the rural sports competitions.
''Funds are not an issue. Once we get the sanction we will go ahead with the construction of rural stadiums,'' officials said. Sports Department is also convinced about land availability as Gram Sabha land can be utilised for the purpose.
