Monsoon session of Parl gets underway: Both Houses adjourned after obituary references

New Delhi, Jul 17 (UNI) The Monsoon session of Parliament began today with both, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, paying tributes to the sitting Members and former Members who passed away during the inter-session period. Both the Houses also condemned the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims on July 10 with Speaker Sumitra Mahajan stating in the Lok Sabha that it was a "heinous attack which has brought pain and suffering to the bereaved families". In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari said that it was an "inhuman and barbaric act" and maintained that the resilient attitude of the Yatris is appreciable. The dastardly terror attack on Amarnath cave shrine devotees had claimed eight lives. The Session, expected to be stormy over several high-voltage issues like tension with China and deteriorating law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir, will continue till August 11. Paying tributes to departed leader Vinod Khanna, a sitting Lok Sabha Member from Gurdaspur, the Speaker recalled the former Union Minister as "a popular, versatile and an accomplished film actor". The House also paid tributes to former Union Minister for Environment Anil Madhav Dave, who breathed his last on May 18 at the age of 60. The Speaker also made obituary references in respect of former members Subedar Prasad Singh, Ajit Kumar Saha, Era Sezhiyan and Narain Singh Chaudhri. Dr Ansari reading out the obituary reference described the late Dave as a "champion of environment conservation" , who had worked tirelessly for conservation of Narmada river and its catchment areas. Late Dave was the member of the Upper House for three terms and represented Madhya Pradesh from 2009 till his demise. Another sitting member Palvai Govardhan Reddy of Congress passed away on June 9 at the age of 79. He represented Andhra Pradesh in the Upper House from 2012-June 2014 and Telangana from June 2014 till his demise. Yesterday, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had held an all-party meeting at which leaders of Opposition assured her of cooperation in ensuring smooth running of the House business. Though, they said, they will be strongly raising a host of issues, needing nation's attention. More UNI RBE-DEVN RSA 1258
