New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was disrupted on Monday as opposition MPs demanded that the suspension of MPs be revoked.
The government meanwhile pointed out that a discussion on price rise -- an issue which has led to disruptions in both Houses for the last two weeks -- was listed for discussion on Monday and urged opposition MPs to allow Parliament to function.
As the House met, Speaker Om Birla expressed hope that the House would function smoothly after first two weeks of the Monsoon Session were marred by disruptions.
On Monday morning, as the Question Hour started, Congress MPs demanded that the suspension of four MPs from the Lok Sabha be revoked.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said a discussion on price rise, as demanded by opposition parties, has been listed.
"They should go back to their seats and participate in discussion," Meghwal said.
The Speaker then said it was against the dignity of the House to run it amid ruckus and adjourned the sitting of Lok Sabha till 12 noon.
When the House met again at 12 noon, the Congress and some other MPs protested again demanding that the suspensions should be revoked.
Papers were laid amid the sloganeering. The Chair then adjourned the House till 2 pm.
Four Congress MPs -- Manickam Tagore, Ramya Haridas, T N Prathapan and S Jothimani -- have been suspended from the House for this session.
The Monsoon Session, which started on July 18, saw several disruptions in the first two weeks as opposition MPs protested against the GST hike and price rise and other issues. The session ends on August 12.
