Guwahati, May 25 (UNI) Sarbananda Sonowal was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Assam, becoming the first BJP leader to lead any north eastern state. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor PB Acharya at a public function attended by an estimated one lakh people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, veteran BJP leader LK Advani, several union ministers and chief ministers of NDA ruled states were among those who attended the swearing-in ceremony. Ten ministers were also sworn-in, of whom eight were given cabinet berths. A former firebrand student leader, Sonowal had led an alliance of BJP and two regional partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) to end a 15-year-long uninterrupted Congress rule in the state, thereby paving the way for formation of the first ever BJP-led government in the entire North East.
