Modi expresses anguish, anger over killing of people in the name of cow protection

Ahmedabad, Jun 29 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed anger and anguish over the present atmosphere of violence in the nation and asserted that no one can be allowed to kill people in the name of cows. It was the best occasion to speak about a serious issue, the Premier told a function here on the occasion of the centenary celebration of the Sabarmati Ashram and issuance of a commemorative postal stamp and coins on Mahatma Gandhi’s spiritual guide Shrimad Rajchandraji on his 150th birth anniversary, Mr Modi said,' I want to express my anger and anguish on the current atmosphere in the country. What has happened to the country which believes in feeding even the ant, taking care of street dogs, where every morning feeding fish is the tradition, which has learned the lesson of non-violence from the messiah of peace Mahatma Gandhi. That hospital, the Premier said, is being burnt on the death of patient owing to failed operation. There can’t be anybody superior to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and social reformer Vinoba Bhave with respect to Gau Bhakti. 'They have showed us the best way of cow protection and devotion towards it.' Mr Modi said that no one has the right to kill any human being in the name of cow protection. Narrating his meeting with Vinoba Bhave in Wardha Ashram and a touching story of his childhood in which a cow which had accidentally killed a five-year-old boy in his village, herself died by giving up eating owing to remorse, Mr Modi said that he felt pained when he hears the news of slaying of someone in the name of cow protection. 'Whether someone is innocent or guilty in a matter related to cow should be decided by law and no one has the right to take the law into one’s hand. Likewise, if a doctor is responsible for poor treatment, law is there for that too while an accident is an accident,' Mr Modi said. The Prime Minister added, ' I request the people of the country to understand that violence can not be solution to any problem.' UNI ND RP1608
