Miraculous escape for bus passengers as engine catches fire in TN

Dindigul, Mar 31 (UNI) Atleast 48 passengers travelling in a
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus had a
miraculous escape, when they jumped off in time on seeing
flames and smoke emanating from its engine, here today.
Police said the town bus was on its way to Collector's
office from Dindigul when bystanders noticed sparks coming
out of the engine. They immediately alerted the bus driver,
who halted the vehicle.
The bus crew raised an alarm and asked the passengers to
alight immediately. Even as the panic-stricken passengers
alighted from the bus, flames and smoke started coming out
from the engine.
The passengers and locals managed to extinguish the fire
by pouring water on the engine with the help of bus crew.
Preliminary investigation revealed that an electrical short
circuit inside the engine caused the fire. The bus was later
taken to the TNSTC depot for repair works. Further
investigation was on.
