Malegaon bomb blast: Sadhvi Pragya Singh granted bail

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today granted bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur in the 2008 Malegaon blast case on a cash surety of Rs 5-lakh with two sureties of the same amount for the bail. Rejecting the bail plea of Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit, an accused in the same case, the Division Bench of Justices Ranjit More and Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi passed an order after the arguments on both the side were concluded last month. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing the case, had earlier told the Bombay High Court that it has no objection if the High Court granted the bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and submitted that the agency has already held that the provisions of stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) were not applicable in the case. The Bench reserved the order in Sadhvi’s appeal on February 20. The court has put conditions that the Sadhvi's passport should be deposited at NIA court, she should not tamper with evidence of the prosecution, shall be present at to NIA whenever required and lower court should not be influenced by the observations of this order. Sadhvi was chargesheeted by the Maharashtra ATS in 2009 stating that it was her motorcycle that was used to plant the bomb at Malegaon that killed six people and injured 101. UNI AAA NV SW SNU 1501
