Bengal Govt to introduce five vessels for ferrying people across the Ganga

Kolkata, May 23 (UNI) The state Government is soon going to introduce five steel vessels, each with a capacity of 250 passengers, for ferrying passengers across the Ganga. The steel vessels have been made by the West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBTIDC). Each of the sturdy vessels cost Rs 1.60 lakh, an WBTIDC official today said. Through the Jaladhara Scheme introduced recently, the State Government has undertaken a slew of measures for the safe transport of passengers across the waterways of Bengal. As per the scheme, the state government would provide financial assistance in the form of thirty per cent of the conversion cost or a maximum of Rs 1 lakh for each of the around 14,000 semi-mechanised boats plying the Ganga to be converted into fully mechanised ones. The jetties on the river would also be overhauled. UNI BM
