Elephant dies of electric current; 5 booked

Raipur, Jun 16 (UNI) An FIR has been lodged against two farmers and three personnel of the Electricity Department in the death of an elephant due to the electric current today in Gersa village of Dharamjaigarh forest division in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.
Giving this information, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rakesh Chaturvedi said that an elephant was killed in Gersa of Dharamjaigarh forest division due to electric current this morning.
On receiving information about this incident, the top officials of the forest department reached the spot and found that a wire was illegally connected from electric pole to a pump by a farmer Bhadoram and another farmer from. The elephant was killed after coming in contact with this live wire.
Chief Conservator of Forests Bilaspur Anil Soni and Dharamjaigarh DFO Ms Priyanka Pandey interrogated the two accused farmers regarding illegally drawn electric wire for an irrigation pump. Both the officer issued an instruction to take action against the accused under the Wildlife Act.
Meanwhile, Forest Department officials found that illegally drawn wire was being removed from the electric pole by Electricity Department sub engineer P Kujur and other staff.
Action has been taken against them for allegedly tampering with the evidence.
