More than 1,000 farmers apply for construction of recharge shafts in Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 13 (UNI) As many as 1,177 farmers in Haryana have so far applied for construction of recharge shafts under the ‘Mera Pani – Meri Virasat’ scheme, aimed at protecting the depleting groundwater table in the state through crop diversification, officials said on Monday.
Stating this here on Monday, Mr Sanjeev Kaushal, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, said that 182 farmers in Ratia, 76 in Siwan, and 231 in Guhla have so far applied for the construction of recharge shafts. Similarly, 55 farmers in Pipli, 426 in Shahabad, 47 in Babain, 108 in Ismailabad, and 52 in Sirsa have also applied for the same.
While the number of applications received so far has surpassed the number of structures allotted to Ratia, Siwan, Guhla, Shahabad and Ismailabad blocks, the officials of the department are encouraging more farmers in Pipli, Sirsa and Babain blocks to register under the scheme, he added.
