Banda (UP), August 11 (UNI) Three persons, including two women and a child died, 15 have been rescued and 17 are still missing after a boat capsized in Yamuna river in Marka area of this district on Thursday, a senior officer said here.
Superintendent of Police (SP) said the people of the area use boats as a medium of transportation to travel to neighbouring district Fatehpur. "It is being said that due to strong current, the sailor lost control and the boat capsized. Three bodies, including two women and a child have been recovered," he said.
The SP said that 15 people have been rescued safely and 17 were still missing. "The injured have been admitted to the hospital and their condition is stated to be stable. A major rescue operation is being carried out and all senior officers, including the District Magistrate are present at the spot," he said.
He said teams of SDRF, NDRF and local water police are arriving and are expected to reach soon. Regarding the number of people travelling on the boat, he said that exact number is still not known.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Banda district administration to reach the spot immediately and launch a rescue and relief operation. He has expressed grief over loss of lives in the incident and has conveyed his sympathies towards the bereaved families.
The CM has directed the District Magistrate, DIG, teams of NDRF and SDRF to reach the spot immediately. He has also directed that proper treatment be provided to those injured in the incident.
UP Governor Anandiben Patel has also expressed grief over the incident.
