Shamli, Jan 1 (UNI) Police have arrested main accused in the murder case of devotional song singer Ajay Pathak and his family from Panipat in Haryana.
Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal on Wednesday told UNI that Ajay Pathak (42), his wife Snehlata (38), daughter Vasundhara (15) and son Bhagwat (10) used to reside in the posh Punjabi Colony in the Adarsh Mandi area.
While Ajay's family used to live in the upper portion of the house, his elderly uncle Darshan Pathak used to live in the lower portion. The house has two gates and only the one on the back side opens.
The SP said that no member of Ajay's family was spotted outside the house till Tuesday afternoon. His brother, who resides nearby, tried to contact Ajay but when he did not respond to calls, their other family members and neighbours went to the house to find the small gate of the main door open.
After Ajay was called several times and there was no response, they went upstairs to find the gate locked. When the lock was broken and they went inside, the bodies of Ajay, his wife and daughter were found lying there.
The assailant also took the DVR of the CCTV camera with him while Ajay's son and car were found to be missing.
Mr Jaiswal said that considering the seriousness of the case, the police teams immediately started their investigations and Himanshu, who was once close to Ajay Pathak, was arrested from Panipat (Haryana) on Tuesday night.
The arrested accused said that he had committed the crime on Monday midnight and after abducting their son, he had gone to Panipat with the family's car.
Later, he murdered the son too and after putting his body in the car, he set the vehicle ablaze. The burnt body of the son was recovered by the cops from the car and it has been sent for post-mortem.
The SP said that Himanshu could be seen entering the house in the CCTV footage. Himanshu had earlier worked with Mr Pathak and used to frequent his house.
Further investigation is underway.
