Three militants, jawan killed in Pulwama encounter

Srinagar, Aug 29 (UNI) Three militants and a jawan were killed in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Saturday.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Zadoora in Pulwama late last night.

However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” he said.

Three militants were killed in the encounter while a jawan was also injured. The injured was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed.

Col Kalia said incriminating materials, including one AK rifle and two pistols, were recovered from the encounter site, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
