Panchayat victories reflect tremendous faith in BJP govt: MP CM

Panchayat victories reflect tremendous faith in BJP govt: MP CM

Bhopal, July 29 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed on Friday that the state’s ruling BJP received unilateral public support in the three-tier panchayat polls conducted after an interregnum that extended over approximately seven long years.
“This very day, BJP-supported representatives were declared elected as presidents in 41 of 51 district panchayats. Likewise; in excess of 20,000 representatives – backed by our party – emerged victorious as sarpanchs in election to 23,000 village panchayats. In the context of janpad panchayats, the outcome was 226 in our favour out of 312. More than 650 ‘samras’ panchayats are also BJP supported,” the visibly-enthusiastic Chief Minister told UNI in the state capital.
The results constitute the populace’s seal of approval on the dispensation’s public-welfare work over the past many years and also Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies, he averred and touched on government programmes focusing on development of infrastructural facilities.
“I wish to heartily felicitate and also express my gratitude towards the BJP state President (Mr Vishnu Datt Sharma), other office-bearers, workers and public representatives. It was hoped that we would triumph in Narmadapuram and Dindori districts as well but that did not happen. These matters will be looked into at the organisational level,” Mr Chouhan said.
In the context of the principal-opposition Congress’ allegations regarding misuse of wealth, muscle, the police and the administration, he countered, “These days, that party’s leaders are saying and doing whatever comes to their minds. If their accusations contained even a vestige of truth, how can their scattered victories be explained? They are trying to save face following their overall debacle. A certain erstwhile chief minister stood near the main entrance to the election venue here on Friday. Should a personage of such stature act thus? An attempt was made to stop women electors.”
The buzz in political corridors is that the panchayat and civic bodies’ polls comprised a semifinal to the Assembly election scheduled in 2023.
“Our answerability to the people has definitely increased. Paucity of funds shall not be allowed to be a factor vis-à-vis rural progress. The government will enhance financial resources without imposing fresh taxation. For achieving this objective, the revenue collection framework will be buttressed. Former chief minister Kamal Nath always complained regarding lack of funds while he was in the saddle. He even said, ‘Mama (maternal uncle) has left an empty Treasury’. Willpower is imperative for ushering in development,” Mr Chouhan underlined.
