Jammu, Oct 12 (UNI) Security forces on Tuesday launched a massive search operation in the forested area along Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir to trace a group of heavily armed terrorists.
The Line of Control lies to the west of Rajouri with Poonch to its north. Defence sources said that no fresh contact has been established with the terrorists but a cordon and search operation has been in progress.
One Junior Commissioned Officer and four soldiers were killed on Monday in a gun battle with terrorists in Charmer village of Surankote in Poonch.
The gun fight later in the evening, stretched to Bhangai village of Rajouri-Poonch district in Dera Ki Gali area.
"Joint teams of army, police and special operations group have launched patrol in the area to locate the terrorists," they said.
As per reports Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force has claimed the responsibility of attack on patrol party.
Army said that the mortal remains of the slain soldiers were being shifted to their respective villages. The JCO and two of those killed were from Punjab, while one each of the remaining army jawans were from Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.
The mortal remains of all five soldiers have arrived from Rajouri to Jammu.
On Wednesday, the mortal remains of residents from Punjab will move by road at 5 a.m. from Jammu to respective hometown and the mortal remains to UP and Kerala will be shifted by air.
