Srinagar, Sep 9 (UNI) Two militant associates were arrested and a cache of arms and ammunition, including an M4 US carbine, were recovered on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, official sources said here on Wednesday.
They said following specific information about transportation of arms and ammunition, a Kashmir-bound truck was intercepted near Jawahar Tunnel on the national highway at midnight yesterday by a joint team of Police and security forces.
“During the search, security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, an M4 US Carbine, six Chinese Pistols and magazines from the truck coming from Jammu,” they said.
They said two persons, on board the vehicle, were immediately taken into custody. “The accused, believed to be militant associates, were being questioned,” they said, adding police has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
They said more arrests are expected in the coming days.
