Assault on Dalit family: NCSC asks Tarn Taran administration to submit ATR

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) Taking strong note over the brutal incident in which sarpanch and villagers of Assal Uttar village allegedly assaulted a Dalit family and molested woman for buying a piece of land in the village, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on orders of Chairman Vijay Sampla, sent a notice to the Tarn Taran Administration on Monday, asking the officials to submit an action-taken (ATR) report till October 22.
As per the information received by the NCSC from the complainant Ninder Singh of village Assal Uttar (Tarn Taran), at least eight men of the village, along with some unidentified men, assaulted his family. The complainant had purchased a house in the village in 2018. However on January 12, this year, the eight accused men, along with around 25 unidentified men, trespassed into the house to take its possession forcibly.
Besides hitting swords to the complainant and opening fire in the house, the accused tore the clothes of Ninder Singh’s wife and molested her. Village sarpanch, Tarlochan Singh, defamed the family using caste-related abusive words while others threatened to kill them for purchasing the house.
