SFs fire in air, burst teargas shells to disperse mourners in central Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 26 (UNI) Security forces fired several rounds in the air and burst teargas shells to disperse a procession taken out by mourners on the sixth day of first month of Islamic calendar “ Muharram” when Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad, was martyred alongwith his associates at Karbala more than 1400 years ago .
Defying Anjuman Sharie Shian orders that there would be no procession or mass congregation in connection with Muharram in the Kashmir valley due to COVID-19 pandemic this time, hundreds of mourners, mostly youths took out “Alam Sharief” procession from village Zooru Gund towards Imambara.
However, when the processionists, reciting Marcia and raising religious slogans, reached village Hur, security forces swung into action and stopped them.
