Dharamshala, Jul 11 (UNI) New powerful diesel engine of ZDM-3 category will soon run between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar railway stations in Kangra valley to make travel easier and comfortable.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Aggarwal told UNI on Saturday that Kangra valley narrow gauge railway is located in Ferozepur division of Northern Railway which runs between Pathankot in Punjab to Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh.
This railway line is 164 kilometers long, which passes through picturesque and charming plains of the sub-Himalayan region. This section was started in 1929. Nurpur Road, Jawanwala City, Jwalamukhi Road, Nagrota, Chamunda Road, Palampur, Baijnath, Jogindernagar etc. are the main railway stations on this railway station where many tourist, historical and religious places are located.
He said that Ferozepur division is developing Kangra valley Railway from tourism point of view. There are seven pairs of trains running between this section including one pair of express trains which run between Pathankot to Baijnath Paprola. Currently the train service is suspended due to Covid-19.
Kangra station has been developed as a heritage station through arts and galleries. Free Wi-Fi services have been provided at all stations of this railway line.
Mr Aggarwal informed UNI that the third new powerful diesel engine of ZDM-3 class built during lockdown from Parel Workshop, Mumbai, has been shifted to run between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar railway stations of Ferozpur division to make travel easier and comfortable.
He said that trial of both the engines received earlier was going on and that due to the Covid-19, the trial was postponed.
The DRM said that all these new engines have been created using new technology. There is a cabin on both sides for locopilots which will save time in shunting. Security will increase as visibility improves. It uses the Cummins engine, which will be more reliable and economical in terms of fuel. The control system will be better due to the engine and transmission being digital.
