Lucknow, Oct 1 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government on Friday recommended a CBI probe into the death of Kanpur-based businessman Manish Gupta who died allegedly after being thrashed by police in Gorakhpur on Monday night.
Additional Chief Secretary Home Awanish Awasthi confirmed that the state government on Friday night recommended the CBI investigation to the Union Home Ministry in the case.
On Thursday, during his meeting with the family members of the deceased in Kanpur, CM Yogi Adityanath had accepted the demand of the family to recommend the CBI probe in the case.
According to officials, the government has also announced to provide Rs 40 lakh as compensation to the family of the deceased. The government has already given Rs 10 lakh and rest would be given on Saturday.
The government has already announce to offer businessman's wife a job in the Kanpur Development Authority as Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
In another decision, the government has decided to shift the SIT probe from Gorakhpur to Kanpur on the demand of the family, till CBI takes over the case.
A case of murder has been registered against six policemen in the case.
Though police officials maintained that Manish got injured while trying to escape from the police raid at a hotel in Gorakhpur on Monday night.
The 38-year-old businessman is survived by his wife Meenakshi and a four-year-old child.
