Sukhbir asks CM to announce Rs 50,000/acre compensation for cotton farmers

Bathinda, Sep 25 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday asked Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to announce an immediate compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for farmers whose cotton crop has been completely destroyed in the State besides demanding an impartial inquiry into supply of spurious BT cotton seeds to farmers.
He also demanded a separation compensation of Rs 15,000 for khet mazdoor whose livelihood had been affected due to the destruction of the cotton crop.
Mr Badal announced SAD would stage a massive protest at Bathinda on October 3, in case Punjab government does not announce the due compensation to the affected farmers as well as the farm labourers. He also assured the next SAD led government would launch a total crop insurance scheme for state farmers.
