SAD activists stage dharna against fuel price hike

Jalandhar, July 7 (UNI)Activists of Shiromani Akali Dal on Tuesday staged a dharna and held protest demonstrations against hike in the prices of petrol and diesel in the city. Led by Kulwant Singh mannan, district chief of the SAD and Baljit Singh Neelamahal, the activists criticized the Central and State governments for the rise in the prices of the fuel.
They asked the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to reduce VAT on the fuel to ease the problems of the people and the farming community in particular. They also raised the issue of waiving off school fee dues to provide relief to the people who are already reeling under deep financial crunch due to Covid-19 pandemic rendering them either jobless or having no work at present. They also demanded the restoration of blue ration cards to ensure government ration to maximum number of people. They alleged that the present congress government of the state had scrapped these cards on political grounds.
SAD MLA from Nakodar led the dharna and protest demonstration at Nakodar. He said that due to wrong and irrelevant policies of the state government every section of the society had been suffering from difficulties. He asked the chief minister to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel so that the people would be able to purchase petroleum products on cheaper rates.
