PM flags off Lucknow Metro

Lucknow, Mar 8 (UNI) The City of Nawabs got the green transport facility of Metro from Airport to Munshipulia, after it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kanpur on Friday.

However, the commercial run will commence from Saturday morning, at 0600 hrs.

The inauguration of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) 23-km North-South corridor was made through video conferencing from Kanpur in the presence of UP governor Ram Naik and chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Several BJP leaders, including a couple of UP Ministers, were present in Lucknow at the airport station, flagging off the trains, simultaneously with the Prime Minister.

Now, Lucknow joins the list of elite cities having a Metro network of more than 20 km. Apart from an across-the-Gomti ride, commuters will also travel through an underground tunnel for the first time. The 8 km Tranport Nagar to Charbagh elevated section is already running for the past couple of years.

Lucknow metro is the country's most advanced Metro system. It is a state-of-the-art world class Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) that will be convenient, safe, fast, reliable and cost-effective, said Kumar Keshav, LMRC MD.
'Lucknow Metro coaches are the safest and made according to the requirements of the city. They have the most advanced signaling and train control system – called the communication-based train control System (CBTC), which enables Metro trains to virtually operate on a 'driverless' mode.'

The 23 km-long Metro will have 21 stations and the project have been completed within a record time of 1580 days, with a cost of Rs 6928. The section has three underground stations and 18 elevated stations.
