UP: BJP MLA Janmejai Singh dies of heart attack at 75

Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) BJP MLA from Deoria Sadar seat Janmejai Singh passed away due to heart attack at a hospital here on late Thursday night. He was 75.

The legislator's family members on Friday said that he suffered heart attack at around 2200 hours on Thursday and was rushed to Civil Hospital. The doctors there referred him to Lohia Hospital. He was rushed to the Cardiology department.
It was informed that the MLA succumbed when doctors were placing the pacemaker.

His corona report was negative.


Janmejai Singh had won his first Assembly election on BSP ticket in 2000. He again won in 2012 and retained Deoria Sadar seat in 2017 on BJP ticket.

The three-time MLA was in Lucknow to attend the monsoon session of the UP assembly.

He is survived by three sons and four daughters. The last rites will be performed later in the day in Deoria.

UP Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have expressed their grief over the demise of the MLA.

It was the fifth legislators who died since March in the state.
