HP High Court upholds refusal of Prosecution Sanction against HP officer

Shimla, Aug 2 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh High Court has dismissed a writ petition filed by Chartered Accountant Chander Shekhar, seeking to quash the state government's refusal to sanction the prosecution of a former Joint Director of Industries, Tilak Raj Sharma, in a 2017 bribery case investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Justice Ajay Mohan Goel upheld the state's decision dated October 12, 2017, and its reiteration on November 17, 2022, which had declined prosecution sanction under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The petitioner alleged that Sharma demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh through a private individual, Ashok Rana, for facilitating a Rs 50 lakh central subsidy for M/s Medicef Pharma, Baddi, where Shekhar was a consultant.
