Bulk Drug Pharma park to generate 20 thousand direct employment: HP CM

Shimla, Aug 31 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday said that the Bulk Drug Pharma Park is a big gift to the state. He said that this would provide employment to 20 thousand direct and ten thousand indirect people in the state.
Interacting with the reporters in Shimla, Jai Ram Thakur said that about 100-120 MW power is required for the pharma park. This will ensure retention of pharma formulation units in the state for many years as well as local employment opportunities. He said that till now we had to import bulk salts and drugs from China. But with the opening of this park, our problems will become resolve reducing dependence on US and Chinease salts. He said that the estimated project cost of the park is around Rs 1200 crore, out of which Rs 1000 crore will be funded by the Government of India for the development of common infrastructure and an estimated investment of about Rs 8000 to 10,000 crore is expected in this park. Jai Ram Thakur said that the Union Cabinet had approved the Bulk Drug Park Scheme on March 21, 2020 and subsequently on July 21, 2020, guidelines were issued for prescribing evaluation criteria for submission of proposals. As per these guidelines, 90 per cent of the project cost will be provided by the Department of Pharma (DOP), Government of India, with a ceiling of Rs.1000 crore.
He said that there are more than 600 pharma manufacturing units in Himachal Pradesh and the annual demand of bulk drug in the state is around 30,000-35,000 crore per annum. Now this park will be able to meet the bulk drug demand in a cost effective manner which will also enhance the productivity and operational efficiency of the pharma manufacturing units. Apart from this, the park will also cater to the API requirements of the entire country especially in North India.
