UP scale up vaccine to protect children from pneumonia

Lucknow, Aug 25 (UNI) A vaccine to protect against a common cause of pneumonia among the children will now be available in all districts of Uttar Pradesh, under the national ‘Universal Immunisation Programme’ (UIP).
Earlier, this vaccine was only available in select districts under the national program.
The Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine( PCV) was introduced in the UIP in 2017, and since then, it has been scaled up across the country in a phased manner. Currently, the vaccine is available free of cost in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Goa and parts of Rajasthan, besides Uttar Pradesh. The vaccine is also available in the private sector.
