Srinagar, Jun 17 (UNI) A 65-year-old man from Shopian died due to COVID-19 on Wednesday in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 64.
With this death, 28 people have lost their lives due to infection in 13 days, and 49 people in 29 days in J&K, where the COVID-19 positive cases have surpassed 5300 mark.
Official sources said that an elderly man was admitted to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Monday for shortness of breath and fever. 'The patient, who tested positive for COVID-19, was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),' they further said.
They stated that the elderly man suffered a massive heart attack and died in the wee hours.
With this fatality, the death toll has risen to seven in Shopian. Srinagar is the worst affected district with 14 casualties due to the disease in the UT. Baramulla with 11 fatalities stands at number two, followed by Kulgam with eight deaths while five people each have lost their lives due to the infection in Anantnag and Kupwara.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported seven fatalities while 57 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
The total number of people infected by COVID-19 has surpassed 5300-mark in the UT, where 2781 positive patients have been discharged from hospitals after being treated successfully.
