Shimla, Oct 12 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday said that he has tested positive for novel coronavirus.
"A few days ago, after coming in contact with a corona positive person, I was under quarantine at my residence for the past one week. But as I was having COVID symptoms for the last two days, I got a corona test done today, which has turned out to be positive", the Chief Minister informed through Twitter.
The 55-year-old leader further said that he has isolated himself at his official residence on the advice of doctors.
According to reports, a swab sample of Mr Thakur's wife Dr Sadhana Thakur was also tested, but her test report came negative.
During the Rohtang tunnel commission, Mr Thakur came in contact with Banjar MLA Arun Shourie who tested positive for the virus a day later.Subsequently, the chief minister went into home quarantine.
Mr Thakur is the sixth sitting chief minister across the country to have tested positive of COVID-19. Earlier, Haryana's Manohar Lal Khattar, Madhya Pradesh's Shivraj Chauhan, Goa's Pramod Sawant, Karnataka's B S Yediyurappa and Arunachal Pradesh's Pema Khandu had been found infected.
In Himacah, among the legislative, three cabinet ministers--Mahinder Singh Thakur, Sukhu Ram Chaudhary and Suresh Bhardwaj, along with half a dozen MLAs, have tested positive.
Last month, the chief minister also came into contact with an officer in the Chief Minister's Office who later tested positive for COVID-19.
