Floods have destroyed farmers’ crops; in UP , government must compensate them:Lallu

Kushinagar, Aug 8(UNI) With flood fury has created havoc in many districts of the state and farmers’ paddy and sugarcane crops are marooned, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded that the state government must give compensation to the farmers with immediate effect so that they get some relief in this hour of disaster.

In a statement here on Saturday , UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu said that for a week he has been taking stock of the situation in flood hit areas. From Bahraich to Balia, the situation is quite alarming. At many places, the condition of the embankments is very pathetic, which clearly shows the negligence on the part of the government. Bhikharipur Sakror is broken in Tarabganj. The condition of Elgin Charsadi embankment worsens every year. Bhikharipur embankment was damaged in 2018 as well. This year Rs 70 crore was released for its repair work. Rivers like Ghagra, Saryu, Rapti, Kuano and Sharda have caused havoc in the state. Many people have lost their lives in different parts of the state including Lakhimpur and Ayodhya due to rain, floods and overflowing rivers.
