Sonamarg fair attracts large number of tourists, locals

Srinagar, Sep 11 (UNI) Sonamarg fair, celebrating the summer season with a view to showcase the art, music and culture was organized on Saturday which attracts large number of tourists, locals and Gujjar and Bakerwals.
A defence ministry spokesman Col Emron Musavi said this afternoon that fair was organized at Sonamarg which is known to be the little Switzerland of India which is characterised by lush green meadows surrounded by steep snow-clad mountains.
It is a popular tourist destination for visitors from all over the world, he said. Historically known to be the gateway on the ancient Silk Road connecting Jammu and Kashmir with Tibet, it gives rise to the “Three Sisters” a group of Lidder, Sind and Neelum rivers. It also serves as one of the entry points for the Amarnath Cave in south Kashmir Himalayas.
