UP governor, CM, Akhilesh Yadav pay tribute to Gandhi, Shatri on their birth anniversary

Lucknow, Oct 2(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid floral tribute Mahatma Gandhi on his 152nd birth anniversary and former Prine Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 117 birth anniversary here on Ssturday.

They were joined by Law and Justice Minister Brajesh Pathak and Lucknow Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia who also paid floral tributes at the Gandhi statue in Hazratganj.
Opposition leaders like Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav and Congress state president Ajay Kumar Lallu also garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri to pay their tribute.

The Chief Minister along with the Governor also visited the Khadi Gram Udyog Kendra Hazratganj, Shree Gandhi Ashram. Here the Chief Minister and the Governor witnessed the Khadi clothes and then tried their hand at spinning the wheel.

They were accompanied by BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh. The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also purchased a gamchha worth Rs 500 and honored Governor Anandiben Patel with it.

Governor Anandiben Patel said that Mahatma Gandhi paved the way for truth and non-violence in making the country independent. Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's philosophy of life full of gentleness and simplicity which is an example for all, she said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a congratulatory message that Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts are as relevant today as they were earlier. By adopting them, peace and harmony will be established in the whole world, which is very much needed today, he said.

The Chief Minister said that the former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri played a leading role in the freedom struggle. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that Gandhi's entire life is a message. He greeted the country and the people of the state on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Former Chief Minister and SP President Akhilesh Yadav said that Mahatma Gandhi had dreamed of Gram Swaraj in the country, while emphasising on Antyodaya, social harmony and respect for the labor force. The country can progress only by following his path, Mr Yadav said.
