CCEA approves Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor

Chandigarh, Sep 15 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's vision to strengthen the Roads and Railways network in the National Capital Region got a major boost on Tuesday when the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) at an estimated cost of Rs 5617.69 crore.
The HORC, a 121.742 km long new electrified Broad-gauge double line from Palwal to Sonipat, will be completed in five years. Soon after the completion of the Kundali-Manesar Expressway, which has been in dispute for long, the Chief Minister, was successful in getting the approval of several projects by the Central Government to ensure vehicular congestion-free National Capital Region.
The HORC will render rail travel facility to 20,000 passengers everyday other than carrying more than 50 million tonnes of freight every year. The concept of the HORC project was suggested by Mr Khattar to the Prime Minister in November 2018 when Mr Narendra Modi came to inaugurate the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway at Sultanpur, Gurugram.
