Punjab VB registers case against tax collector for accepting Rs 50,000 bribe

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (UNI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), has registered a case against Gurjit Singh, Tax Collector, posted in Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO) in Khuhian Sarwar of Fazilka district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 50,000.
Giving this information here on Friday, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the case has been registered against the Tax Collector based on a complaint lodged by Sunil Kumar, a resident of Diwan Khera village, in Abohar tehsil on the Chief Minister's Anti-corruption Action Line.
He further informed that during the enquiry of this complaint, it was found that the complainant has been running a building material shop in Khuhian Sarvar town and had provided construction materials on different occasions to six village panchayats amounting to Rs 8.63 lakh.
