BSF seizes 64.33 kg heroin floating in waters of Ravi river in Gurdaspur sector

Jalandhar, Jul 19 (UNI) Border Security Force on Sunday foiled the bid of Pakistani smugglers to push a huge haul of drugs into the Indian territory using water channel of the river Ravi and succeeded to seize 60 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin weighing approximately 64.330 kg floating in the waters of the river from near the Punjab Border.
A spokesperson of the Punjab Frontiers Head Quarter of the Border Security Force here said in the early hours at about 0230 hrs Sunday morning, the alert troops of the 10th Battalion of the BSF in Gurdaspur sector deployed along the bank of River Ravi observed some suspicious item on a bunch of hyacinth floating in the waters of the river from the Pakistan side to the Indian water territory.
The troops immediately passed information to the Boat Naka party to check the suspected item following which the troops dragged the suspected bunch of water Hyacinth floating towards the bank. During search of the hyacinth, the troops seized 60 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin weighing about 64.330 kg tied with four cloth tubes and stashed underneath the bunch of water hyacinth (Jalkumbhi) in such a way to float the consignment with the flow of water towards Indian water territory side.
A nylon rope measuring 1500 meters was also found attached with water Hyacinth to control the floating consignments in the river which was attempted to be pushed into the Indian Territory using a water channel with the help of water hyacinth, the spokesperson added.
Value of the heroin seized is said to be Rs 312.65 crore in the international market. The BSF had seized 321.827kg of heroin during the current calendar year till today having a value of over Rs 1609 crore in the international market.
