Punjab: Father-son duo arrested for swindling over 5kg gold from Amritsar trader

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Aug 28 (UNI) A man from Mukerian and his two sons from Hyderabad have been arrested by district police for allegedly swindling over 5kg of gold ornaments from an Amritsar-based trader.
The accused has been apprehended for stealing 2.3kg of gold ornaments and 36.60 carats of diamonds.
DSP Lalit Kumar on Wednesday reported that Rajiv Verma, owner of Shiv Shakti Jewellers in Mukerian, and his sons Rohan and Sayam Verma invited Kapil Chohan from SK Traders, Amritsar, to showcase gold ornaments to potential customers.
After gaining Kapil Chohan's trust, the accused allegedly took 5kg, 208gms, and 650 milligrams of gold ornaments under the pretext of showing them to customers at a later time.
However, they neither returned the gold ornaments nor paid Chohan the value, amounting to over Rs 3.27 crore. The accused then disappeared.
An FIR was registered against the accused at Mukerian police station in connection with the case.
The police used technical surveillance and modern technologies to track down the accused and arrest them from Hyderabad. After obtaining a 5 day police remand, the police recovered 2.310 kg of gold ornaments from the accused.
Further interrogation is being conducted to recover the remaining gold ornaments, said DSP Kumar.
