Punjab: Shopkeeper booked for illegally stealing signal from pay-channel

Phagwara, Oct 10 (UNI) Local Police have registered a case against a shopkeeper under Section 420, 120-B of IPC and 63 Copy Rights Act for illegally installing electronic devices and selling TV18 Broadcast Limited and pay channels on set-top boxes.
Stating this here on Sunday, Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh told UNI that Manoj Kumar (proprietor Kamakhya Copyright Protection Delhi) complained to the police that during the survey, it came to his notice that Titu Bhasin of Bhasin Electronics Phagwara, and his associates are watching TV. Signal, a sub-planet of 18 Docast Ltd, were illegally tampering with the free-to-air box and stealing the signal from their pay-channel, which has been used to defraud companies and the government.
After which his team arrived and bought a free to air set top box and when the team members went to Bhasin's shop to get another set-up box, the operator took Rs 1,600 from them and wrote it on his card, which he also videotaped in which employee at the shop, was explaining how to operate the setup box and Titu promised to run all the pay channels for three months through the free to air set top box, which made the broadcasting of some pay channels illegal shown through the Free to Air set top box. After which it was proved that the shopkeeper has cheated the companies and the government by incurring financial loss for profit. In this regard, the police have arrested shopkeeper Titu Bhasin, owner Bhasin TV. A case has been registered against the accused.
