HP couple takes extreme step, Husband dies

Shimla, Jul 7 (UNI) A couple belonging to Bathara village of Rampur Tehsil in the district took the extreme step on Monday night, in which the husband died after hanging himself with ceiling fan in the room, while his wife, who had consumed poison after hearing the news, survived, the State Police said here on Tuesday.
According to Superintendent of Police, Shimla Om Pati Jamwal, Devinder Negi ended his life on the night of Monday night. After coming to know about this, his wife Nilu Devi consumed poison at 2115 hrs on the same day.
Police brought the body to Civil Hospital Sarahan, where postmortem was conducted on Tuesday.
After the autopsy, the body of Devinder was handed over to his brother Shiv Kumar for the last rites.
Nilu was also admitted to the CH Sharahan, where her condition had become stable and she was also discharged from the Hospital. In her statement, the woman said no one forced her to take the extreme step.
No cognisable offence has come to the notice so far, however, proceedings started after lodging a case under Section 174 of IPC, added Mr Jamwal.
