Cow injured with explosive laden dough dies in HP

Shimla, Jun 22 (UNI) After one month when a cow was injured after consuming an explosive-laden dough in Jhandutta subdivision of Bilaspur district died on Monday, police source confirmed.
The incident had occured in Dahad village in Jhandutta on the night of May 25, when the cow's owner Gurdial Singh left her untied for grazing in the fields.
The cow strayed to grazing fresh green grass and unfortunately picked up a dough ball which was coated by the wheat flour. It exploded soon after the very first bite of consuming the bait.
The animal was severely injured after a wheat dough ball exploded in her mouth, but had recuperated following the incident and even given birth to a healthy calf.
The cow's condition deteriorated on June 7 and it was taken to a veterinary hospital in Bilaspur, where she died during treatment on Saturday. The report of the cow's autopsy is awaited.
Later, a video of the injured cow uploaded by Mr. Singh on social media triggered widespread outrage, leading to the arrest of Singh's owner Nand Lal, who allegedly confessed to have placed the trap as a protection against wild animals which enter the fields and damage crops.
Nand Lal was booked under section 429 (killing or maiming animal) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Explosives Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, is currently under judicial custody.
