IT dept collects Rs 11,545 cr as tax from UP east

Lucknow, Jan 10 (UNI) The east Uttar Pradesh region of the Income Tax department has collected tax of Rs 11,545 crore rupees till December 31, with Lucknow commissionary registering almost a three times hike in tax collection.
Addressing a press conference here Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax UP (East) Region Shishir Jha said, "As against the target of Rs 14,713 crore, the department till December 31 collected gross tax of Rs 11,545 crore."
He said that if tax refunds of Rs 2,187 crore are excluded then the net collection is Rs 9,358 crore. As compared to Rs 271 crore collected during 2001-02, tax of Rs 941 has been collected in Lucknow commissionary, which is almost thrice.
