New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) While hailing the National Students Union of India victory on two seats out of four posts in Delhi University Students Union polls as 'complete rejection of 'Modinomics' by the youth, the Congress said it would approach the High Court if 'recounting of votes' on two posts is not acceded to by the DUSU election authority. Addressing mediapersons, Congress spokesperson, Ajay Maken said, 'the win by the NSUI showed that the youth had rejected Prime Minister's oft repeated jargon of 'Clean University Politics'. Congress-NSUI's victory in Rajasthan, Punjab and now Delhi University Student Union elections has proved that the youth has rejected the empty rhetoric of Modiji." Mr Maken also reiterated the Congress call for the recounting of votes for the post of Joint Secretary and secretary as he said the party had come to know from unofficial sources that at the time of counting of votes the cameras were off. But he said it is subject to confirmation. Mr Maken said if the request is not heard against the malpractices by the ABVP in the polls, the Congress would knock the doors of the High court. The victory of NSUI in DUSU polls has dealt a blow to the ABVP political wing of the RSS and is a wake up call for the Modi. NSUI today won the post of President and Vice-president in the elections to the DUSU, which were held yesterday. Charging BJP with playing 'dirty politics' and intervention in DUSU polls, Mr Maken said, "Normally the the trend is of holding the Delhi University polls either on Fridays or Saturdays so that the contestants get full one week for campaigning amongst the students in the university. This time, the elections were due for September 9 but they were postponed for September 12 so that Prime minister Narendra Modi's speech on September 11 on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's Chicago address could be circulated amongst the student fraternity to influence them to vote for the ABVP. There is link between PM's speech on September 11 and postponement of DUSU polls to September 12. Calling it a direct intereference of the BJP and Centre in the university polls, the former Delhi Transport minister said. Citing another example of meddling by the BJP into the DUSU polls, Mr Maken rued,' Moreover, the nomination papers of one of the NSUI candidate were rejected on flimsy grounds and the NSUI had to approach the High court to get the candidature cleared before the polls. This move by the rival parties again points towards direct intervention by the authorities and the HRD ministry.' Comparing the two stalwarts' speech on different occasion in the past two days, Mr Maken said, "Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's address at the University of California in Berkeley on 'India at 70: Reflections on the Path Forward' had struck a chord with the student fraternity which is reflected in the NSUI win today and Modi's rejection is written all over.' Terming the NSUI win in the University polls a 'beginning' , Mr Maken said, " The youth today are now with the Congress and after four years have reposed faith in NSUI by making it win the President and Vice President posts.' As to why NOTA registered a high number of votes in the yesterday's DU elections, the Congress spokesperson stated,"ABVP used to garb around 20,000 votes in earlier polls but its vote share has dwindled now which is the reason for NOTA getting so much votes. Students are voting less to ABVP.' The former Delhi Power minister also demanded fair counting of votes and fair recording of the election process and the recounting. On being queried as to why Congress did well in DUSU polls and lagged behind in Jawaharlal Nehru University polls, Mr Maken retorted, "JNU polls are Left vs Left game. Wherever the Congress has an important unit, it will push all its power to win that poll. In JNU, NSUI presence is minimal. So, JNU polls were not a 'NSUI story'. UNI SY SHK 2110
