We stand by Chidambaram, have faith that law will prevail: Cong

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Terming the late night arrest of senior party leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram as an act of 'brazen personal and political vendetta' by the Narendra Modi government, the Congress on Thursday said the party stands by him and expressed confidence that law would prevail in the matter.
The party reiterated that neither Mr Chidambaram nor his son, have been accused of any offence in the INX media case. It also said there is no offence disclosed against him in the FIR.
Terming the late night arrest of Chidambaram as an act of 'brazen personal and political vendetta', AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala said, 'Over the last two days India witnessed the broad daylight murder of democracy and the rule of law by a Government hell bent upon using CBI and ED as personal revenge seeking departments for the party in power.
'The vindictive, selective and malicious manner in which former Finance Minister Home Minister has been persecuted and prosecuted is nothing short of a brazen personal and political vendetta.'
Expressing the party's full support to Chidambaram, Mr Surjewala said, 'We stand by P Chidambaram and reiterate our unwavering belief in his innocence.
'We hope that the officers who scaled walls in their eagerness to please their political masters, as also select TV channels, have the courage to tell the PM and Home Minister HM, that there is zero evidence of any case against him.
'We have faith that the Rule of Law, which is under attack from the ruling BJP Government, shall prevail and the life and liberty enshrined in the Constitution will not become a dead letter.'
