We are very confident of our ability in UP & we will surprise people: Rahul

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Amid reports that seat sharing talks were on between the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections without the Congress, the party president Rahul Gandhi has said that his party would surprise the people in the North Indian state.
In an interview to the Gulf news ahead of his visit to UAE, a part of his global outreach toward NRIs, the Congress president said,’’ there are very interesting things that the Congress party can do in Uttar Pradesh... the Congress's idea is very powerful for Uttar Pradesh.
So, we are very confident of our ability in Uttar Pradesh and we will surprise people. We are trying to bring opposition together… ‘’
While saying that the Congress would work together with other opposition parties, including the SP and the BSP to defeat Mr Modi in 2019, Rahul, however, cautioned against underestimating the Congress in the state.
‘’UP is work in progress. I have heard some statements in the media but we are going to work together and make sure that we defeat Mr Modi. But, I just want to say again — to underestimate the Congress in UP is a mistake,’’Rahul said.
The comments by Rahul came amid reports that the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati are expected to announce their seat sharing arrangement for the 2019 Lok sabha elections on Saturday excluding the Congress.
There are also reports that the Congress could decide to go it alone in the state of Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections.
