New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived here today on a state visit. Besides his wife Emine Erdogan, the Turkish President is accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and a 150-member business delegation. "India welcomes arrival of a special guest. President @RT_Erdogan and Mrs Emine Erdogan arrive in Delhi for State visit to India," MEA Spokesman Gopal Baglay said in a tweet. His official engagement tomorrow include call on by Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. He will also attend a Business Event - India Turkey Business Forum - and interact with industry captains and leaders of various business chambers. Around 1200 hrs, the visiting President will have a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and this will be followed by delegation level talks over working lunch. Both Mr Modi and the visiting President are expected to hold wide-ranging talks on key bilateral and regional issues, including India's membership in the Nuclear Supplier Group. There will be also talks on ways to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism and trade, sources said. India has, meanwhile, sought to downplay supposedly closer ties between Turkey and Pakistan. "We have always emphasised that India-Turkey relations stand on their own footing," said Ruchi Ghanashyam, Secretary (West) in the External Affairs Ministry. Turkey is not directly opposed to India's NSG membership, but has been maintaining that the powerful bloc should come out with a system to consider the entry of the countries, which are not signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). After ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here tomorrow morning, Mr Erdogan will also lay Wreath at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, MEA sources said here. During his stay, there will be also a Conferment of the Honorary Degree on President Erdogan by the Jamia Milia Islamia University. UNI DEVN PY RJ 2141
