TEMA urges govt to use domestic telecom devices for communication network in sensitive areas

New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) The Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Association (TEMA) has asked the Government to use only domestically manufactured devices to provide connectivity in north east and border areas in view of security vulnerabilities.
Considering national security is paramount, the Association said the Government should immediately give directions to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to expand its coverage area to unconnected regions particularly in North East, Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts and hilly areas.
In a letter, the TEMA Chairman Ravi Sharma said, “National security has become the prime concern and considering the sensitivity involved, it is important that all unconnected areas in north east, Naxalite areas and border and hilly areas should immediately be connected with telecom networks. Keeping in mind the security concerns, it is high time that BSNL is asked to provide telecom connectivity to these areas on an urgent basis using Make in India equipment only. Domestic telecom manufacturers are fully geared to supply equipment for these projects.”
