SC quashes criminal defamation against India Today Editor-in-Chief, Arun Poorie

New Delhi, Oct 31 (UNI) Big relief for Arun Poorie, as the Supreme Court in its order today quashed the criminal defamation filed by a former diplomat, O P Bhola, against India Today Editor-in-Chief, Poorie and some other government officials, but, however, it refused to quash the proceedings against the reporter who filed the story.
The Supreme Court's bench led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Uday Umesh Lalit granted relief to Former IndiaToday Chairperson, Aroon Purie who had moved the Supreme Court and challenged the criminal defamation complaint against him.
The criminal defamation suit was filed over a 2007 news article "Mission Misconduct" in India Today Magazine. The news article has reported allegations against the then Indian deputy consul general in Edinburgh, O P Bhola.
