SC asks UP Govt to file status report  on Lakhimpur Kheri violence by tomorrow

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report before it by tomorrow in connection with the brutal Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
It also asked the state government to apprise it as to who are the accused and against whom the FIR has been filed and how many of them have been arrested in the case.
The Lakhimpur Kheri violence matter was being heard by the three-judge Bench of the Apex Court, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana and also comprising of Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli.
During the course of the hearing, the Uttar Pradesh government told the Supreme Court that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been appointed to conduct a detailed probe and a judicial commission of inquiry has also been ordered on Lakhimpur Kheri violence. It agreed to file the status report by tomorrow, when the Supreme Court will take up the matter for further hearing.
The Supreme Court observed that in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident case, eight persons, including farmers and a journalist have been killed. "We need to know who are the accused persons against whom the FIR has been filed and if they have been arrested. Add that in your status report," Justice Surya Kant said.
The Supreme Court said that the state of Uttar Pradesh shall have to facilitate immediate medical care for the mother of a 19-year-old man who died in the brutal incident.
Uttar Pradesh government's Additional Advocate General (AAG) Garima Parshad, told the Supreme Court that Lakhimpur Kheri incident as "extreme, unfortunate".
The Supreme Court will hear the matter tomorrow, when the UP Government will file the status report.
The CJI Ramana also clarified that the case was incorrectly listed as "suo moto" matter today, due to miscommunication with the court registry.
It was supposed to be a PIL based on letters by two lawyers.
