New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI) Even though over 10,000 fresh COVID-19 cases were recorded, a new ray of hope emerged from the recovery point as the total cured people surpassed the total active infections mark on Wednesday.
As many as 5,991 patients were cured of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. This takes the total number of patients recovered to 1,35,205, while the total number of active cases is now 1,33,632. For the first time, the total number of recovered patients has exceeded the active cases, pushing the overall recovery rate to about 49 per cent.
As per the latest data revealed by the Health Ministry, the total number of Novel Coronavirus patients reached 2,76,583, with Maharashtra topping the COVID charts, while Tamil Nadu stood at close second. Maharashtra now has 90,787 confirmed cases, including 44,860 active cases, 42638 recoveries and 3289 deaths.
Tamil Nadu houses 34,914 confirmed cases, including 16,282 active cases, 18,325 recoveries and 307 deaths. The recovery rate was put at 52.47 percent and the mortality rate was 0.88 percent, a Health bulletin said.
In Delhi, the COVID-19 tally reached 31,309, including 18543 active cases, 11861 recoveries and 905 deaths. As many as 180 people were infected in Delhi's Sadar bazar, Asia's biggest wholesale market, with 25 fatalities. Containment zones in Delhi has now increased to 237.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal chose to go on with the LG's decision of treating every citizen in Delhi hospitals, and said the decision will be implemented without any disagreements.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain alerted the citizens that everybody has to now learn to live with the virus for at least two years and justified the high number of cases in the national capital by more testing.
Gujarat now houses 21,014 confirmed cases, including 5336 active cases, 14365 recoveries and 1313 deaths.
