New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) The Indian Railways have lost more than Rs 2,200 crore due to the agitation of farmers in Punjab, which does not include the damage to railway property, sources in the Railway Ministry said here on Friday.
According to them, due to the agitation in Punjab, the Railways have suffered a loss of more than Rs 2,220 crore. This figure is based on the assessment of situation till Thursday and does not include estimates of damage to railway property. Sources said that an assessment of this will be done, after the blockade ends.
They said on an average, about 30 racks of goods arrive daily in Punjab and about 40 racks of goods leave. Due to the curtailed train movement, the state has suffered at least this much daily.
