New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Altogether 120 applications have been received by the Railways in response to tenders
for operation of private trains from 15 companies.
Railways had invited 'Request for Qualification' (RFQ) on July 1 last to run private trains under Public
Private Partnership (PPP) on 140 routes in 12 clusters. All the clusters will have to bring a total of 151
state-of-the-art trains to private companies.
With the entry of private companies in the operation of trains, an investment of Rs 30,000 crore is expected
in the railway sector.
Railways informed that RFQs were opened on Wednesday. In response to the separate tenders issued for the
twelve clusters, 120 applications have been received from a total of 15 applicants, including 14 Indian and
one Spanish company. The applicants include L&T Infrastructure Development Project Ltd, GMR Highways Ltd, BHEL and Indian Railway Tourism and Catering Corporation (IRCTC).
